Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Essentials course

11 November 2026, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

With Akasati McAuley

Combining the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion, this course provides powerful tools for emotional resilience. Learning to be kinder to ourselves creates a happier inner world and improves our relationships with others. Research shows that the MSC program enhances mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. It boosts happiness, reduces anxiety and depression, decreases burnout, physical pain, and much more.

The ‘Essentials’ short course is adapted from the full MSC program. It covers key teaching points, core meditations and exercises on the theme and provides a clear, practical introduction in theory and practice.

Each session introduces meditation and informal practices designed to be used in daily life. There are short talks, exercises, poems, and opportunities for heart-felt connection with others in the group.

The program includes:

  • how to stop being so hard on yourself
  • how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • how to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism
  • theory and research behind mindful self-compassion
  • how to become your own best teacher

MSC was developed by Christopher K. Germer, PhD, leader in the integration of mindfulness and psychotherapy, and Kristin Neff, PhD, pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion.
