Sunday 9th March
10.30am to 4pm (with 9.30am to 10.30am Sadhana practice for Order Members)
We are most fortunate that on Sunday 9th March we will have a day of celebration and devotion to the greatly compassionate Bodhisattva, Green Tara.
Thanks to a bequeathment from Nick Diggins, the Brighton Buddhist Centre has been able to purchase both the Padmasambhava Rupa and also a new Green Tara rupa. On this festive day we will focus our attention on her great qualities and perform the consecration ritual of our new statue. So firstly a few things to say about preparation:
Very soon there will be slips of green paper arriving in reception. These will have blocks of Green Tara’s mantra printed on them and her seed syllable. Each one will eventually be rolled up in to bundles of mantras to be placed inside the statue. So to prepare, you may wish to take a slip, choose your favourite Dharma quote around compassion or Green Tara, write it on the slip and return it to Reception. Please be sure to have them back in reception no later than March 5th to give me the time I need to prepare them.
During the day you might like to wear something green, as this is the colour of Green Tara and therefore this will be very much on show in all the shrine cloths, candles and so on. I would also encourage people to bring offerings, especially of flowers, to make to Green Tara during the first puja we perform to her.
The morning will include a meditation for Order Members to be led in Sadhana, and then we will open to all for meditation, chanting and a talk on Green Tara.
Lunch will be a festive meal. Please bring something tasty to share, for us all to enjoy in the best tradition of dana, open handed generosity. All offerings of food need to be clearly labelled, identifying ingredients, vegetarian/vegan etc.
The afternoon will be the consecration ritual, where we will be filling and sealing the statue during mantra. The bundles of mantras, precious objects, dharma texts, incense, flower offerings and jewels will be placed inside the rupa to aid our connection to Green Tara and in a sense bring her to life. Following this we will engage in puja to Green Tara.
