Throughout August the Brighton based
Tibet 2008 Initiative has hosted a programme of Tibetan cultural
activities.
These included a performance by
world renowned Tibetan singer Soname Yangchen, a talk by a Tibetan
refugee living in Brighton, talks by aid agencies, films, slide
shows and other activities. The programme also included silent
walking vigils, or Dharma Yatras, which took place along Brighton
seafront. All of the events were well attended and raised awareness
of the challenges Tibetan people face in the modern world. Hundreds
of pounds were donated to Tibetan aid agencies.
The Tibet 2008 Initiative also announced
that it has arranged for British Airways to ship, free of charge,
2,000 kilograms of clothing and other goods to India for the Tibetan
Children’s Village. The Initiative will be enlisting the
help of local schools and the local community in this project.
The Tibet 2008 Initiative
was instigated in response to the recent requests by His Holiness,
The Dalai Lama, to raise public awareness of the humanitarian
situation facing Tibetans both as domiciles and exiles, and to
invite and nurture, people to take personal initiatives to offer
practical aid; allowing positive emotions to have positive results.
It is a non-aligned, non-political initiative.

Initiative Team
Tibet 2008 Initiative was a team effort, and
we would like to thank everyone who participated in any manner
whatsoever. Without your support it would not have been such a
success.
Please
visit our Flickr
site to view photographs and YouTube
to view video footage of the Yatras. Please tell your friends
about this Initiative, nurturing them to take the initiative to
help others, like Sonam, a Tibetan refugee, who is being sponsored
as a direct result of the Tibet 2008 Initiative.
The spirit of the Tibet 2008 Initiative
lives on in The Tibetan Children’s Village Appeal, which
has been launched in order to provide clothing and other suitable
items for the Tibetan Children’s Villages in India.
