Approaches to Meditation
Mindfulness Practices include mindfulness of posture
and of the body, walking meditation and the four stage ‘Mindfulness
of Breathing’ practice. These can contribute to a fuller awareness
of ourselves and to calm, clear states of mind.
Loving Kindness The Metta Bhavana (cultivating loving
kindness) is a practice based on awareness of our emotions.
It encourages the arising of a positive intention that can transform our
response to ourselves and towards others.
. ‘Just Sitting’ is a receptive practice that
combines with both of the above approaches.
Awareness of actions and their consequences in our daily lives (ethics)
supports the practice of meditation.
