Carers Day RetreatsThis is an initiative of the Brighton Buddhist Centre funded
by Brighton & Hove Council Council for carers from the City. The aims of the Carers Days include -
There will be time to talk to other carers if you wish, and there are several short sessions looking at effective techniques to help create more calm in our life, especially when things get tough. All sessions are invitational, nothing is compulsory! Learning to meditate can help you manage difficult and stressful times in your life as a carer. The day includes a delicious buffet lunch. These day retreats are funded by Brighton & Hove Council and are free to carers. You do need to have completed an assessment with B&H Social Care Access Point for 2011 - you can do this over the phone on 01273 295555 and it should only take 15 minutes or so. They will provide you with a carers card which entitles you to attend two days and other supportive services on offer. There is a page on the Carers section of the council website ‘Relaxation skills for carers’ with information about the day break, drop-in and MBCT course. Here is a link to the page which gives information on the eligibility for the breaks/courses and contact details for access point. Dates for 2012 - all days run 10am - 5pm Drop-in group for carers
This group has the same aims as the Carers Day Retreats in that it gives you a chance to try out activities like yoga, relaxation and meditation at the Brighton Buddhist Centre. It also simply helps carers to meet and share together. It is fun and informative as well as restorative. There is no charge to carers. Meetings at the Centre on Thursday afternoons from 2.00
to 3.30 every fortnight. The next meetings for 2012 are: no classes in August Sept 6 + 20
