The main aim of this course is to help people to improve their lives and mental states, rather than to give information about Buddhism for intellectual interest.
But to practice the Dharma we need to know the Dharma, and Buddhist ideas have a transformative effect in their own right, by changing the way we see the world, and therefore the way we feel and act.
So this course will have a large element of reading texts, reflecting on texts, and talking about texts. But it is important that we do not approach this with our usual attitudes to what we call ‘study’, which can bring in a sense of competitiveness or inferiority, or engage just our critical, rational intellect, rather than our whole being.
Find out about Buddhism in the company of others who also wish to go deeper in exploring the Dharma. Will include short meditation practice, Dharma teaching and discussion. Each module forms one of several running over a year.
This is the first half of the ten week course “Going for refuge to the Three Jewels.” It is broken into two five week course to make it more affordable and to include a break coinciding with school half term breaks.
