The Brighton Buddhist Centre welcomes booked visits from educational and community groups of all ages, from primary and secondary schools, universities and colleges and including groups with special needs. (We have full disabled access). We also welcome teacher training groups and other community and faith groups. The schools team have been welcoming groups for years and the sessions are popular with schools in Brighton and the Sussex area. Many visit regularly. As they are so popular please book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Your Visit

Your visits will be tailored to your needs. A typical visit will last for one and a half hours and may feature:

- an experienced Buddhist teacher-guide
- an introduction to the Centre and its activities
- discussion of the Buddha's life and teachings
- optional guided relaxation and stilling exercises and/or
- optional listening exercises
- storytelling ( with younger groups using puppets)
- drawing the shrine and Buddhist artifacts

The relaxation and stilling exercises that we introduce are universal in their content. Children will not be involved in any chanting or ritual activity and the team are careful to respect other faiths and beliefs.

Cost

We appreciate a donation of £1.50 per student or a minimum donation of £30 per group. If you need to give less please let us know. Adults with school groups are welcomed at no extra charge. Cheques should be made payable to Brighton Buddhist Centre and given to your guide.

Preparing for your Visit

The Brighton Buddhist Centre is open 12.30 - 2.30pm Monday to Friday. You are welcome to drop in and look around, take photographs and ask questions beforehand in order to prepare for your visit.

Learning Resources

At the Buddhist Centre we have a well stocked bookshop and library. We are happy to lend out to teachers the Clearvision videos Keystage 1-4 for your own viewing. From autumn 2005 we will be offering training sessions for RS teachers. Please do get in touch if you are interested.

Dress

There are no dress restrictions. You will be asked to remove shoes before entering the shrine rooms.

Refreshments

We regret we are unable to offer space for large groups to eat sandwiches. The Pavilion Gardens are suitable in summer and are close by.
